Watch the sunrise from the summit of an active volcano, eat breakfast cooked by volcanic steam, then unwind in natural hot springs - all in the same morning. Mount Batur is a 45-minute beginner-friendly trek from the base, making this one of the most achievable and rewarding adventures in Bali.

Mount Batur (1,717m) is an active stratovolcano on the rim of a vast ancient caldera - and standing on its summit at dawn, watching the light spread over Lake Batur and the distant peaks of Rinjani and Agung, is something most people describe as genuinely life-changing. The trek itself is manageable for most reasonably fit adults: around 45 minutes to 1 hour uphill on a well-worn volcanic path, with your guide to pace and encourage you. At the top, a breakfast of bananas, chocolate-drizzled toast, and eggs is cooked directly in volcanic steam vents - possibly the most memorable breakfast you'll ever eat. After the descent, the morning ends at natural hot springs fed by the mountain itself, the perfect antidote for any tired legs.
